Midland Valley High School, home of the Mustangs, prepares all students by developing the World Class skills as outlined in the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate. The continual focus on the four Cs—critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity—promotes high expectations and lifelong learning to ensure our students can compete in and contribute to a global society.
We believe all students can learn and improve their individual performance and achieve high academic standards. Midland Valley High School continues to close the achievement gap and excel in general academic performance. The Early College Program, a partnership with Aiken Technical College, is a unique college-level educational experience providing students with opportunities to earn their high school diploma while concurrently completing credits toward an Associate in Arts Degree. By providing rigorous courses and competitive college-level experiences, we strengthen our students’ critical thinking skills. We administered 298 Advance Placement Exams and 107 seniors graduated with a GPA of 3.5 or higher. The Class of 2019 was awarded $14,877,807 in scholarship dollars.
We believe students benefit from a variety of art, media, technology, and public service activities. These programs make our students competitive global citizens by providing opportunities for students to develop innovation and technological skills. Curricula such as Chorus, Band, Drama, Media Arts, Art I, II, III, Media Technology, and Music Appreciation are opportunities that promote self-direction and interpersonal skills. To encourage public service and collaboration, our students participate in character building programs such as the Buddy Club, Toys for Tots, Relay for Life, Elementary Mentors, AP Ambassadors, and Reading Ambassadors. As a result, our students learn teamwork, compassion, and responsibility to become well-rounded, positive role models.
We believe in a culture of continuous improvement. At Midland Valley High School, we have implemented “Mustang Hour” to help students take ownership of their learning. During this time, students are provided opportunities to cultivate their work ethic by meeting with teachers and participating in activities that support student achievement. Midland Valley High School promotes academic success, respect, lifelong learning, and citizenship. By upholding our students to high standards, they will acquire a global perspective and become productive, positive, and responsible citizens of South Carolina.
