A.C. Moore Elementary is helping all students develop the World Class Skills of the Profile of the Graduate by incorporating research-proven instructional strategies in the classroom, providing individualized interventions, incorporating 21st Century technology in all classrooms, implementing professional learning communities to guide teacher and student performance, and providing students with extra-curricular activities in after-school programs. A.C. Moore Elementary School is located in the heart of Columbia, just minutes away from the State House and the University of South Carolina (USC). We are an award-winning school with a diverse population. Students from 10 countries speak 13 languages attend our school and receive support through the English Speakers of other Languages (ESOL) Program. We are an Arts in Basic Curriculum (ABC) site, a Green Steps School, and our early childhood program is nationally accredited through the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). We are the only school in the district to hold this accreditation.
The staff, parents, and community have helped to provide an academic environment conducive to learning. The vision of A.C. Moore Elementary School, in collaboration, with an engaged community, is committed to ensuring that each learner achieves his/her potential in a safe, caring, creative, academically, and diverse learning environment that will develop citizens for a changing world. This vision guides our goal of increasing student achievement. With the leadership and vision of the School Improvement Council, we partnered with the Midlands Reading Consortium (MRC) of the United Way to provide additional reading mentors for our students. Additionally, faculty and staff worked diligently in analyzing student data from our Reading and Math Inventory assessments given three times a year, district benchmarks, and common formative assessments to formulate learning goals for our students.
We recognize that educating our students is a team effort. Our dedicated parents that volunteer with the Parent Teacher Organization, School Improvement Council, and Creative Arts Alliance, continuously provide many contributions of time, resources, and support to our school. Funds raised from various community functions this year have gone directly to support teachers in the classroom. Varied academic and artistic opportunities help ensure that our students will become lifelong learners and responsible, productive members of society.
