Innovative classroom instruction, service learning projects, character education, field trip experiences, and extracurricular activities exemplify Clemson Elementary School’s mission to develop in all students the World Class Skills included as part of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate.
The school’s instructional program focuses on the whole child with multi-sensory, meaningful, and relevant activities. Rigorous lessons are infused with technology to engage today’s learner. Teachers encourage students to help each other and learn together. Classrooms are child-centered and theme-based, with integrated curricula and hands-on projects and experiences helping to meet objectives. Instruction is delivered through a variety of models including traditional self-contained classrooms, team teaching and departmentalization of instruction classrooms.
Service learning projects are used to integrate meaningful community service with instruction, civic engagement, and personal reflection. Students participate in Spirit of Giving, Humane Society Supply Drive, Country Santa Toy Drive, and Jump Rope for Heart. They also work as helpers in the art rooms and in buddy classrooms. The school provides a well-designed character education program for students to better equip them to handle the challenges of school and life. Students are regularly recognized for their contributions of good character within the school community.
In-house guest speakers, performances, and demonstrations as well as off-campus adventures enhance and extend student learning. Field trips are designed to bolster instruction and include cultural performances, therapeutic experiences, and even extended day or overnight trips to support targeted, grade-level standards.
Students have many opportunities to excel outside of the classroom through activities offered before, during, and after school. These activities include: Future Engineers, First Lego League, Garden Club, Safety Patrol, Flag Patrol, Jump Rope Team, Chorus, Odyssey of the Mind, Chess Team, Special Olympics, CLIMB Team, Chicks with Kicks Running Club, and the Geography Bee. Visit Clemson Elementary, “Where every day is a great day to learn,” to observe firsthand how through the efforts of students, parents, staff, and community, the development of tomorrow’s graduate begins today.
