Seaside Elementary School is helping all students develop the world class skills and life and career characteristics of the Profile of the South Carolina graduate by teaching skills through real life connections and problem solving that build a solid foundation for college and career readiness. As stated in our vision, we provide a supportive environment where our students are successful academically and become lifelong learners and productive citizens. The teachers work closely with the instructional coaches to ensure that our students are being offered the most challenging curriculum for all levels.
Seaside is a community and family centered school that celebrates our triumphs and successes of our students and staff. We do this by celebrating our "Students of the Week" who demonstrate weekly lifeskills and by acknowledging students who show weekly/monthly growth on our digital content. We believe in growing children instructionally, personally, and emotionally as productive citizens in the world. We do this by continuing to be involved in composting in our school to help conserve the amount of waste in a positive manner. Additionally, students demonstrated their technology skills and talents at our HCS District Tech Fair with several Top 3 finishers. Many special activities were held throughout the year to include Fine Arts Day, Field Day, Great Kindness Challenge, Career Fair Jump Rope for Heart, and United Way Caring for Kindergarteners. Our chorus /honor chorus performed throughout the community and at school events. Our archery team continues to grow and learn more at each competition. Our student council is involved in many community projects and gives back to local charities. The school also had strong participation from the local businesses and communities.
In our desire to grow students individually, our staff and faculty put forth effort in analyzing various measures of data to provide interventions and lessons to make sure that we were meeting the needs of the individual student. Through MAP data, PASS data, DIBELS, teacher observation, and continuous progress monitoring, our teachers were able to set goals and celebrate growth with all of our children. The teachers concentrated on differentiated instruction through our small groups/workstations during this school year.
Effectively implementing digital content was a school-wide focus to help our students move towards using technology as a tool for learning successfully. Teachers and staff members took every effort to differentiate the instruction so that all of our students were able to grow and celebrate success. We utilized programs such as ALEKS, Achieve 3000, and Lexia Core to help us differentiate the needs of our students to achieve maximum instructional growth.
Mrs. Melanie Smith was named Teacher of the Year for Seaside and Ms. Tricia Collins was named Support Staff of the Year.
We are proud of our Stingrays inside and outside of the classroom and continue to strive to push them to greatness academically, physically, and emotionally.
