Forestbrook Elementary is continuing to focus on the profile of a South Carolina graduate by ensuring that all students achieve high levels of success and move to middle school on track to be college and career ready. Our goal is to ensure that, as our motto states, our “learners today” become our “leaders tomorrow”. Through data analysis, collaborative planning, and rigorous instruction we meet the needs of students at all levels. One focus this year was to increase the percentage of students meeting reading targets through targeted, data based, small group reading instruction. Teachers met with their colleagues, instructional coaches, and various learning specialists to analyze DIBELS data and MAP data, which they then used to identify areas of strengths and weaknesses and plan targeted differentiated instruction for enrichment or remediation. Student progress was then monitored for growth and intervention if needed. Through this process Forestbrook was able to assist more students in meeting their reading growth targets this year than in the previous two years.
Incorporating technology continues to be a focus at Forestbrook Elementary. Through the added devices this year, we have been able to better utilize digital programs and digital data available to teachers and students. A large part of our success with reading growth was the use of these digital resources. Teachers used the data from Achieve 3000 and Lexia to monitor student progress, assess student levels, and provide the added assistance and enrichment necessary to help students continue to grow.
The Forestbrook community continues to be a tight-knit community whose members are strongly invested in the success of the children. Through the combined efforts of students, teachers, parents, and community members we are able to continue to provide a world-class education to every child who enters the building while ensuring that they feel safe, loved, and successful. Our challenge is one that we take very seriously - continuously striving for the highest levels of achievement each year and maintaining the level of excellence that our staff and community have worked so hard to achieve.
