Ellen Woodside Elementary School is helping all students develop world class skills and life and career characteristics of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by providing the opportunity for all students to learn in a nurturing, safe and academically challenging environment. Children engage in a rigorous, standards based program in a welcoming, family friendly environment. Our school continues to create an educational environment driven by our school tagline, “Educating Winners Everyday”! Situated in a rural area in southern Greenville County, the school serves approximately 720 students in grades 4K through 5th. Ellen Woodside continues to partner with Mentor Upstate and Michelin to provide a one-to-one mentoring program for 75 identified students. Michelin also supports the school through financial resources, involvement in the school improvement council, and sponsors our annual Michelin day.
In addition, we completed year seven implementation of Balanced Literacy to reach students of all reading levels. All students participate in the Reflex math program. Throughout the year, several assessments including Mastery Connect benchmarks were used to help analyze growth, set academic goals and plans for all students.Grade level teachers meet weekly to collaborate, create common assessment and analyze results to better serve our students. Public Education Partners of Greenville donated ten books to all Ellen Woodside students to ensure that students had the opportunity to continue reading over the summer. We also have a summer reading night with Public Education Partners to further engage families and promote continued learning throughout the summer months. Our students participate in a variety of extracurricular activities including, chorus, ukulele club, intramural sports, robotics club, and battle of the books.
All students have been provided the highest quality of instruction and have been afforded the opportunity to fulfill their innate potential through the positive, creative, and challenging curriculum presented in a relevant and meaningful manner. We believe that the school, family, and community must work together as one team to provide a quality education at Ellen Woodside Elementary.
