Taylors Elementary is developing the world-class skills and life and career characteristics of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by providing a safe, caring, and academically challenging learning environment for all students. Our mission, Empowering Leaders Today and Tomorrow, is promoted within our learning community by teachers who are committed to student-centered instruction and the individual needs of each student.
Our primary goal of raising student achievement is facilitated by our highly-qualified professional teaching staff. The faculty provides learning experiences that engage students in a creative, rigorous, standards-based curriculum. Instruction is driven by research-based best practices and data analysis to ensure that every student has access to individualized instructional strategies. Additionally, each faculty member participates in a variety of professional development opportunities through conferences, literature reviews, graduate courses, and district facilitated trainings. We are proud to have a Top Ten Finalist for Greenville County Schools Teacher of the Year for the Second Year in a Row and the South Carolina National Distinguished Principal of the Year at the helm.
In a concentrated effort to develop world-class skills, we offer a variety of after school and enrichment programs designed to enhance the academic and social skills of students. As an official Leader In Me school, we focus on school-wide leadership skills and equip our students with the success skills needed to excel in school and beyond our K-12 structure. Students also have ample opportunities to participate in groups such as Student Lighthouse Team, AM Tutors, Safety Patrol, Flag Patrol, Art, Chorus, Green Team, Student Ambassadors, and Girls on the Run and a Boys Run Hard Group where our students complete a 5K Run. Personalized Instruction is facilitated with 1:1 device for students in Grades 2-5. Additionally, we have increased the number of iPads and Chromebooks in First Grade and Kindergarten. We have a Coding and a Project Lead the Way Robotics Club. We participated school-wide in the national Hour of Code.
As a National RAMP (Recognized ASCA Model Program), our school counseling department provides a comprehensive program to all students at Taylors Elementary School. Additionally, this department has partnered with Greenville Mentoring to train mentors and pair them with students who need additional support. The Watch DOGS (Dads of Great Students) program provides positive male role models who volunteer to assist in overall school operations. The partnership with Greenville County Mental Health places a full-time Mental Health Counselor in our school, as well. Our school provides a Sensory Room and two Sensory Path to provide structured breaks, incentives, and movement for all children. Weekly Leaders of the Week are recognized during our school news show to promote good character.
Our students surpassed our school-wide WIG (Wildly Important Goal) with a math fluency rate of 83.6%. We experienced a 7% growth in Math, as measured by SC Ready, 3% in ELA and an impressive growth rate of 13% in Science on the SC PASS.
Great things are happening at Taylors Elementary! It is a time of growth and commitment to “Empower Leaders for Today and Tomorrow”. Greatness starts here!
