Greenwood Elementary School is committed to helping all students reach their greatest potential. Students receive differentiated classroom instruction through engaging learning opportunities which provide a solid foundation for career and college readiness. Our school aids all students in the development of the world class skills and life and career characteristics of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by maintaining high expectations for academic achievement, creating a school culture built on strong character and perseverance, and providing the foundational skills students need for success. Students are supported by our entire school community – faculty, staff, parents, and community members– who understand that the knowledge, skills, and character students acquire today lay the foundation for their future success in school and life.
Greenwood Elementary School’s dedicated staff members meet regularly during common planning time to analyze student data and collaborate to share instructional strategies to ensure that all students receive quality instruction in math, science, social studies, and language arts. Leveraging our multi-tiered approach to instruction and academic support as well as maximizing the use of our one to one technology resources ensures that students are provided with learning opportunities that meet their strengths and challenges. Students participate in interactive digital learning opportunities, which include coding, LightSail, Reading A-Z, Raz-Kids, Reflex Math, Study Island, and more. Engaging hands-on, minds-on science instruction through the implementation of Project Lead the Way (PLTW) Launch Units in grades K-6, help to develop collaboration, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. Faculty members invest important time in professional development opportunities as they strive to provide the best possible learning opportunities for our students.
Extra-curricular activities students participate in include the National BETA Club, GES Girls Exemplifying Manners & Style Safety Patrols, WGES Morning Show, Chorus, Band, Strings, Honor Choir, Horizons Art Program, GEMS: Girls Exemplifying Manners & Style, All Pro Dads, and the Good News Club.
Greenwood has a school-wide focus on teaching life-skills through guidance instruction, school-wide implementation of the Core Essential Values Curriculum and PBIS. Civic responsibility is fostered in our learning community through participation in Jump Rope for Heart, Clemson-Carolina Canned Food Drive, Wreaths Across America, Hat-and-Mitten Giving Tree, and other service learning projects that acknowledge our diverse learning community and needs.
We believe that it takes the combined efforts of students, parents, community, faculty and staff to educate and prepare our students for the wins and challenges of tomorrow. Our partnerships with the National Network of Partnership Schools, our Association of Parents and Teachers, our Faith-Based Mentoring Program, All Pro Dads, and our School Improvement Council exemplify this belief. We continue to be diligent in our efforts to work with all of our stakeholders to support school-wide programs and projects that meet the needs of students and ensure that Greenwood is a place where students in our community Grow, Excel and Succeed.
