Williams Memorial Elementary is helping all students develop the world-class skills and life and career characteristics of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by providing a learning environment that is academically challenging, safe and caring. Our motto of being “PAWS”- itively the Best, provides us with the simple direction needed to help our students and teachers reach their fullest potential. The WMES teachers work tirelessly, learning and implementing teaching strategies that enhance the learning of their students. Such strategies include STEM/Tinker Lab, Lucy Caulkins Writing Workshop, Balanced Literacy Approach, Digital Literacy, Response to Intervention, Literacy Stations, small group instruction, SRA reading, PALS, Orton-Gillingham Phonics, Science Kits, Literature Circles, Problem-Based Learning, Achieve 3000, Smarty Ants Program, i-station, and Hands-on Instruction. At Williams Memorial Elementary, we also include various extra-curricular activities for our students in an effort to develop the whole child. Programs like soccer, cheerleading, and basketball, help our students understand the importance of staying active.
Our students take part in Fine Arts, having opportunities to participate in Chorus, the Art Club, and the Drama Club, culminating in a public performance. At Williams Memorial Elementary, we feel strongly that in order to be successful, the school, families, and community should work together for a common goal- to support and encourage of our teachers and children.
