Flowertown Elementary School is dedicated to maintaining high expectations with relationships, rigor and relevance while supporting strong ties among students, families, and the community. We believe that fostering the development of the whole child is essential in helping our students become lifelong learners and preparing them to succeed in the highly competitive 21st century. The combined collaboration of our faculty, staff, children, families, community partners, PTA, and SIC are dedicated to doing what is best for all children.
Flowertown is helping all students develop the World Class Skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by providing a variety of programs, extra-curricular activities, learning labs, and technology designed to help children learn in a variety of settings using various learning strategies to reach all types of learners. Rigorous standards in English Language Arts and math begin in the 4K classroom and continue through fifth grade. With the frameworks in place for a literacy and math model, best practices are utilized to teach and learn the rigorous standards required. Collaborating with Trident United Way this year, our kindergarten through second grade teachers received training from the University of Florida Literacy Initiative Tutoring for Beginning Readers. Kindergarten, first and second grade teachers tutored students one on one and in small groups. To help us ensure student success a few tools we use are benchmarks, universal screeners and differentiated instruction.
Creativity and Innovation are critical skills for our students to embrace. The school’s STEAM lab allows for the creative mind to reach beyond where modern-day standards can go. Students are exposed to critical thinking challenges that require team work, “outside of the box” thinking, and the ability to see a project through. They must navigate obstacles and overcome failures to find what works. The results have been more than imagined - fostering some very intuitive thinking.
In addition to everything the faculty and staff strive to do within the school, FES strives to develop leaders of character by implementing leadership opportunities such as student liaison, news anchor teams, safety patrol, morning and afternoon announcers, student technicians, reading buddies, and student council. These opportunities promote and develop young leaders in our community.
No school can rely on academics alone to provide all that is necessary to meet the challenges of the world today. Flowertown is no different. We are fortunate to have a strong support system in place that consists of parents, faculty, and community members. With the support of the school’s PTA, SIC, and Business Partners in Education, students benefit from parent and community involvement through our student mentoring programs, Baby Bees, and our school food bank and coat closet for those in need of a little extra support, as well as other programs. These entities also work with teachers to help support the academic learning by providing real life connections that help bring further understanding of the learning standards.
Flowertown Elementary School has established high expectations for all stakeholders. At the heart of all they do - children are the number one priority!
