B. D. Lee Elementary School is committed to providing a high quality education to all students. We strongly believe in our motto, “If you believe it, you will achieve it!” We believe by teaching the state’s College and Career Readiness standards along with providing opportunities of exploration, our students will be prepared to graduate as world class scholars.
This school year, our students experienced many opportunities to explore the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate through the use of technology. Our entire school building was equipped with wireless capabilities allowing technological access for technology opportunities throughout the building. Students in grades kindergarten through fifth were provided 21st century learning opportunities through use of our district’s one-to-one technology initiative. Every student in kindergarten through first received iPads and students in grades second through fifth received individual laptops. Every classroom is technology efficient with a Cleartouch Boards, document cameras and LCD projectors. In addition, one computer lab and a science lab are available to conduct additional inquiry based learning. Our students are using technology in a systemic way to participate in inquiry-based projects such as: Project Based Learning, Project Goal, STEM activities, small group instruction, and cooperative learning groups. These real-world opportunities allow our students to experience World Class Knowledge, Skills and Life and Career Characteristics as defined by the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate.
The mission of B. D. Lee is to inspire, lead, and provide each student, in partnership with family and community, the educational foundation to be a responsible, productive individual through a safe, nurturing environment and a challenging curriculum. Therefore, the school goals this year were centered on increasing student achievement through use of extensive Response to Intervention (RtI) to ensure that every child received individualized instruction based on their individual needs. Teachers devoted 40 minutes daily to conduct differentiation of instruction to help meet the needs of our students and provided continuous student conferences to reflect upon student strengths and weaknesses. In order to meet our mission statement of transforming into a “School of Excellence,” we worked diligently to reach every child through our business partners, higher education, School Improvement Council and Parent Teacher Organization. We are very proud of our accomplishments obtained at B. D. Lee Elementary School and we look forward to promoting future scholars.
