Chicora Elementary School is helping all students develop the World Class Skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by focusing on collaboration and critical thinking. Our goal is to ensure that all of our students receive effective learning opportunities and a quality educational experience that allows them to be successful in all of their future pursuits.
Our teachers and students have been introduced to cooperative learning strategies using Kagan structures. We want our students to work as members of a team to support not only their learning but also their fellow classmates. As we create a sense of shared responsibility around collaborative work, students are able to demonstrate the ability to work effectively and respectfully with peers.
To increase student readiness, our staff is mindful of the impact of our instructional strategies on our learners, especially when thinking about student preparedness and establishing high expectations. In terms of critical thinking, we are utilizing teacher reflection around student data and classroom observation feedback, focused specifically on student engagement and students taking ownership of their learning. This is essential as we continue to personalize learning for our students and provide them with rigorous and relevant learning experiences. We are excited about the growth we are already seeing in student achievement as we continue to develop our Profession Learning Communities (PLC) into powerful and meaningful experiences for all participants.
