Bringing our personal best each day is the new guiding motto of Northside Middle School. Through a collaborative effort of parents, faculty, staff, administration and the local business community, NMS develops life and career characteristics in each student that fulfill the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate. Educational strategies and activities were continuously implemented and reviewed to build and sustain world class knowledge and skills consistent with the lifelong learner.
Our one-to-one iPad initiative offers students the opportunity to create and collaborate in a digital world.
NMS recognizes the need to provide students with all skills to become a successful lifelong learner and encourages students to become well-rounded by becoming involved in extracurricular activities. Our football team finished the regular season undefeated this Fall, student artists were recognized by the local Rotary Club, and students represented Northside Middle in the Sertoma Essay Writing Contest. NMS also maintained a robust music education program. Band, Chorus, and Strings performed at the Carowinds Music Festival. The school supported a long-standing Lexington School District Two tradition of recognizing the community’s Veterans as students were encouraged to invite a Veteran to lunch following the assembly in their honor.
At the heart of NMS’ success were its accomplished students and staff members. The faculty was committed to serving the diverse needs of 575 students. The teachers used research-based instructional strategies that, coupled with great parental support, produced outstanding results. In 2017-2018, eighteen students were inducted into the National Junior Honor Society to give us a total of forty-two members. Seventeen students met the rigorous requirements of the South Carolina Junior Scholars program. Nine students were honored as Lexington Two’s Myrdis Walker Scholars. Twenty-six students were named as Duke Tip scholars.
The mission of Northside Middle School (NMS) is to “nurture and develop successful lifelong learners.” This mission drove all decisions at NMS and therefore, the teachers, administrators, parents, and community allocated the necessary resources to achieve the goals outlined in the mission. NMS worked to provide its students the best educational opportunities possible. Involving the community in the decision making process enabled the community and the school to develop a mutually beneficial relationship becoming a close-knit family in the process. The accomplishments outlined in this document are directly attributable to the dedicated community of parents, staff, administration, and community business leaders.
