Thomas C. Cario Middle School assists our students in developing world class skills and life and career characteristics found in the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate. We nurture a love of learning through challenging academics and a supportive environment where every student is valued, is taught to think critically and creatively, and is expected to model dignity and respect.
Cario offers a diverse and comprehensive program of studies, including high school credit in mathematics, computers, and World Language to promote critical thinking and problem-solving. Our students have access to the widest range of STEM courses available at the middle school level through the nationally accredited Project Lead the Way curriculum, as well as courses in business, computer, science, writing, video production, horticulture, health sciences, and leadership. We are extremely proud of our comprehensive and nationally recognized Fine Arts programs, each of which wins local, state, and national recognitions and competitions to rival choice Fine Arts schools. Nationally-normed benchmark testing indicates that our students are improving yearly with critical thinking and problem solving skills.
Character building, leadership, and community outreach are strongly emphasized at Cario and help build student creativity and an innovation mindset. We teach that happiness is a choice and is founded upon service to others. We have powerful student leadership organizations through National Junior Honor Society and student council, among others. Our students use their creativity and innovation skills to create philanthropic endeavors that leave large footprints on our community, working with national and local organizations, and even creating an in-house food bank. We offer a diverse range of clubs that include competitive academics, art, drama, STEM, leadership, horticulture, Star Wars, and literacy, among many others. Our students are involved and highly successful in sports through the recreation department and various private organizations. We could not be as successful as we are without our committed and supportive parent and community groups! We work to ensure each student will be a highly successful, competitive South Carolina graduate, and local, national and world leader.
