The vision and mission of Baptist Hill is to be a comprehensive, high performing school that nurtures students, supports educators and serves its community through inspiration, education and excellence. Our school helps all students develop the World Class Skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by offering programs and opportunities that focus on creativity and innovation, as well as communication, information, media and technology. Baptist Hill continues to develop a wide range of programs that attract students while meeting the economic development needs of our community.
As a community school, Baptist Hill strives to offer programs where all students can find success. We have purposely developed a Fine Arts program that allows students to display their innovation, talents and creativity. Our Fine Arts department offers a course of study in art, band, dance and drama. This department ensures our students compete in local competitions, such as the James Island County Park Christmas Card Decorating Contest and the Coastal Carolina Fair Art Show. Students enrolled in band are able to serve as entertainers during our PTSA Annual Tea, and our drumline played at the 2018 State Football Championship. Our dance program continues to expand each year. Dancers often participate in shows throughout the community including the school’s Baccalaureate Service held each year. This year we offered our students drama. The drama students impressed author Kwame Alexander by acting out scenes from his books Rebound and Crossover during his visit to the school. This year our Fine Arts students also collaborated and shared their talents with our community with Winter and Spring Fine Arts Showcases. Baptist Hill continues to extend a wide range of courses that display the giftedness of our student body.
Baptist Hill provided a wide variety of courses that help students develop skills in communication, information, media and technology. This year we added Digital Art and Design as well as Pre-Engineering to our Program of Studies. Our Career and Technology Education Department now offers courses such as Image Editing, Digital Desktop Publishing, and three levels of Digital Art and Design. Our students operate a school-based enterprise where they offer their products and services to the students and staff, while partnering with a local business to design logos and print advertising. In the area of technology, our middle school students participate in Gateway to Technology, a Project Lead The Way Program, designed to engage middle school students in computer science, coding and robotics. Since we have added the Project Lead the Way Pre-Engineering Program, our students are able to increase their aptitude in the field of engineering.
In order to ensure all students at Baptist Hill engage in creativity and innovation, as well as communication and information, media and technology the school implemented the Personalized Learning model. All students have access to technology in the classroom through Macbooks, Chromebooks, iPads or desktop computers located in computer labs throughout the school. Education Elements, a Personalized Learning consulting firm, provided professional development for all teachers on staff. The school celebrated with a school-wide, 3 station rotation launch that provided students with an explanation of expectations for the use of technology throughout the school.
Baptist Hill continues its commitment to graduate students with appropriate college and career readiness skills developing their creativity and innovation, as well as communication and technology skills to compete on a national level.
