The staff of Moultrie Middle School is helping all students develop the world class skills and life and career characteristics of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by continuing a rich tradition of excellence in academics, athletics, and the fine arts. Our primary goal is to help students reach their full potential. We are raising the bar to ensure students are learning at the highest levels, and preparing them for the rigors of high school so they will become college and career ready. Over the past two school years, our students have made enormous gains in growth as measured by MAP and SC READY, and it’s our goal to be the number one middle school in the state of South Carolina.
We hold high expectations for student achievement, but we also nurture our students by growing self-confidence and embracing the changes of adolescence.
Students take exploratory classes where they have a choice of band, chorus, orchestra, creative writing, PE/fitness, digital literacy, multimedia, Google Basics, Spanish/world cultures, and several Gateway to Technology courses including: Medical Detectives, Flight and Space, Green Architecture, and Automation and Robotics. The Gateway to Technology courses are STEM focused and engages students in collaboration, communication, problem solving, design, and real world applications. Furthermore, many students are taking courses for high school credit. Algebra 1, Spanish 1, and Computer Applications are offered to our eighth graders.
Students demonstrate a competitive edge and are self-driven to score high ratings at local, state, and national venues in fields such as, band, chorus, and orchestra- all three scoring “Superior” at the state assessments. This year, Moultrie’s Quiz Bowl team came in first place, our Quest team took 2nd, and one of our 7th-grade students won the Geography Bee State Championship.
Moultrie students extend their outreach to the community through service projects. Students support causes such as Toys for Tots, Pet Helpers, Buddy Walk, and Troop Care packages. Our community works together to ensure all students develop the world class skills and life and career characteristics of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate. At Moultrie, we strive to live up to our school motto: “Doctrina Perpetua.”
