“Committed to Excellence” was the theme for Woodruff High School during 2017-2018 school year. Hard work, commitment, involvement, and communication are essential to maintaining the level of excellence established by years of outstanding Woodruff High School alumni. The students and faculty of Woodruff High are continually blessed by a generous community that supports academic rigor, co-curricular excellence, and facilities that are second to none. The senior class received a cumulative total of $3,252,109 in scholarships. Over sixty-five percent of the class received some scholarship award. Eighty-one seniors received LIFE Scholarships, thirty-five seniors received HOPE Scholarships, and twelve seniors were named Palmetto Fellows. WHS obtained a 94.4 Federal Accountability Rating and was instrumental in leading District Four in achieving the highest Federal Accountability Rating in the entire state of SC. WHS ranked at the top in South Carolina in the percentage of students enrolled in AP courses.
In addition to an excellent academic year, Woodruff High School had another outstanding year in the visual and performing arts. Eight students collectively won fourteen Southern Scholastic Awards-Gold Keys, Silver Keys and Honorable Mentions. One student was named the winner of the prestigious Archibald Rutledge Art Scholarship. The WHS marching band, The Cadets, placed twelfth in state competition and sixth in the upper state competition.
Success was also achieved in the athletic venue. WHS produced thirty-six scholar athletes. Four teams were crowned region champions and seven were runners-up. Fifty-two students were named All-Region athletes. Woodruff High School had three All-State athletes and reached the playoffs in thirteen sports. Moreover, three Woodruff High School athletes were selected to a state All-Star team.
During the 2017-2018 school year, Woodruff High School continued to emphasize self-discipline, student involvement, communication, and caring attitudes. Throughout the school year, the traditions of WHS remained steadfast because of the involvement and commitment of the community, the students, and the staff.
Our goal in the 2018-2019 school year is to uphold the Woodruff High School tradition of leading the state of South Carolina in academic achievement, athletic accomplishments and artistic endeavors.
