Richland Northeast High School continues to build on its strong tradition, built in its almost 40 years of operation, to help all students develop the World Class Skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate. We are dedicated to promoting the excellence of Richland Northeast High School and to elevate and support all of our students, families, teachers and staff – both now and in the future.
Our School Improvement Council (SIC) continues to focus on the long-range plan to include initiatives in the following areas: Community Engagement, Business & Military Partnerships, Student & Teacher Engagement, and Facility Improvements.
Richland Northeast High School received national certification and was named a “School of Excellence” by the Magnet Schools of America. This award is given to only a select group of magnet schools that have demonstrated the highest level of excellence in all facets of the merit award application. Additionally, Dr. Suber received two Administrator of the Year awards from the South Carolina Association of Student Councils and the Southern Interscholastic Press Association.
Our “Northeast Good News” initiative also continues with regular press releases about our student and school achievements to all local news outlets and our online “CavCast” blog.
The Cavalier Ambassadors program continues to grow and serve as representatives for RNHS for visitors who come to the Northeast campus as well as for presentations within our community. All of the Ambassadors received training to help prepare them for the job of representing RNHS as well as provide them presentation and communications skills that will be useful for future endeavors.
Our School Improvement Council (SIC) teamed up with Student Government Association to provide a Fall Festival for the students, faculty, and the community. This year’s festival was one of the key areas of outreach to the greater RNE community. In addition to the performances offered, fun and fellowship was available through kid-friendly activities such as face-painting, games, and bounce houses.
Our Latino families meet once a month in a separate meeting to contribute to the success of Richland Northeast. These meetings began at the request of our Latino families who stated that because of the language barrier, they felt disconnected when attending the SIC meeting. During this meeting, community members, Hispanic Family Liaison, Ron Huff, and parent representative, Christal Argumedo, translated what was discussed during the school’s SIC meeting as well as collected concerns to be shared. All meetings are conducted in Spanish and interpreted for non-Spanish speaking attendees. Minutes from their meeting were shared to ensure that all SIC members were kept informed. An important contribution to serving our Latino families was the institution of the Spanish Interpreters program. Spanish-speaking students were trained through a special program to enable them to provide Spanish-English interpretation services for families and community members at Richland Northeast. Through their service as interpreters, students in the program worked toward completing the requisite hours to become certified interpreters, creating income earning potential for their hard work. The SIC has made great strides in reaching our Latino families.
Richland Northeast High School is continuing to move in “The Right Direction”!
