Lake City High School is helping all students develop the world class skills and life and career characteristics of the Profile of the Graduate by preparing students who are equipped with the tools necessary to achieve success. Lake City High School serves approximately 875 students in grades 9-12.
Our trend of continuous academic improvement was apparent with the Lake City High School Class of 2018 earning more than 2 million dollars in scholarships. Through a partnership with Florence-Darlington Technical College, more than 150 students participated in dual-enrollment classes, earning college credit while still in high school. As part of this partnership, we were able to continue the Lake City High School Early College— two cohorts of students who will have the opportunity to graduate from LCHS with both a high school diploma and an associate’s degree.
Students at LCHS excelled in numerous areas this year and received well-deserved recognition for their achievements. This year, one student received the prestigious Torch scholarship, valued at more than $260,000. Another student received the prestigious Kondurus scholarship, valued at almost $25,000. The LCHS Athletic Department was named a South Carolina High School League (SCHSL) Palmetto Gold and Sportsmanship recipient for the 3rd year in a row. Additionally, student athletes have completed more than 2,400 community service hours.
The Lake City High School Career and Technology Education (CATE) Center continues to grow and offers students opportunities to participate in work-based learning through internships and shadowing options. Our CATE program offers courses in Culinary Arts, Masonry, Health Science, Firefighting, Business, and Automotive Technology. CATE students participated in the state Skills USA competitions and earned recognition in a variety of areas. One of our Masonry students placed first in his event at the state level and will complete in the national competition this summer.
Additionally, we continued to focus on service learning to help students develop as community members. We increased our community partnerships by establishing mentoring and character education programs for different groups of students. We plan to continue this important work we have started this year in order to provide as much support for our students as possible.
At LCHS, we continue to work diligently to equip our students with the tools necessary to achieve success.
