East Clarendon Middle-High School, located in Turbeville, SC, proudly serves 711 students in grades 6-12. We are a close-knit family, and we strive to offer our students the best education possible. Our community and school work closely together truly reinforcing the quote: “It takes a village to raise a child.” East Clarendon aspires to aid all students in developing critical life skills, as well as career competency, to meet the attributes aligned with the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate. This objective is executed through a comprehensive academic curriculum. ECMHS teachers provide quality instruction through the use of research-based best practice teaching strategies, instructional technology, and standards based lessons.
East Clarendon continues to partner with F.E. Dubose Career Center and Central Carolina Technical College for instructional purposes to promote college and career preparation for students. Through this partnership, students can earn dual enrollment college credit and a variety of career related certifications. In 2017-2018, seven students from the graduating class completed the early college program earning both a high school diploma and an associate’s degree concurrently. This was a first for East Clarendon Middle-High School. Also in the 2017-2018 school year, East Clarendon was the recipient of the Champions of the Environment Grant, which contributed to the school’s advancement and progress. This grant made it possible for both middle and high school math classes, science classes,and art classes to collaborate within a project based learning environment. Teachers and students created an outdoor learning classroom to be utilized for class sessions, labs, and planting and harvesting activities.
East Clarendon’s athletic department continues to offer a variety of sports teams. The 2017-2018 school year marked the beginning of the ECMHS Bass Fishing Team.The school partnered with local members of the community and parents to launch the team. Volunteers offered their time, their skills, and their boats to ensure the students were truly competitive on the water. The Wolverine Girls Basketball Team and the Wolverine Golf Team both won the 1A State Championship. The Wolverine Softball Team won the lower state championship, and the volleyball team, the boys basketball team, and the track team all competed in the 1A Lower State Championships. Rounding out ECMHS’s 2017-2018 sports accomplishments, the Project Unify Team competed in the South Carolina State Fall Games and seized four gold medals and one silver medal. Both the school and the community take pride in all of our students’ successes: personal, academic, and athletic.
The entire ECMHS force endeavors everyday to meet the academic, social, and emotional needs of its students. Through reflection of practices, the faculty and staff monitors and adjusts its programming and methods to help all children reach their full potential. As a result, parents and the community continue to support the school and are proud of its students. The school and the surrounding community maintain responsibility for the positive development and progress of the school and the students by striving to work hard, get smart, and do right.
