Scott’s Branch High School is helping all students develop the World Class Skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate. We take pride in our safe and nurturing learning environment and are committed to challenge our students daily. Our instructional team is prepared by ongoing and meaningful professional development and our students are consistently exposed to a rigorous curriculum, research-based effective instructional practices, as well as resources and assessments that are aligned with the South Carolina state standards.
We focus on the whole student, beginning with life and career skills. Through the collaborative efforts of the school guidance counselor and career development facilitator (CDF), our students are afforded the opportunity to experience career fairs, job shadow opportunities, service learning projects, and job training workshops. Our students also attend the F.E. DuBose Career Center where they can seek certification in various occupations. The school counselor, CDF, parents, and students meet annually to review and update career goals and pathways found in the Individual Graduation Plans (IGP).
To enhance the learning and innovation skills of our students, we emphasize the importance of a confident and competent communicator. The promotion of critical thinking, creativity, communication and collaboration are addressed by using project/problem-based learning activities, academic challenge competitions, honors courses, and the arts. To meet the needs of our academically diverse population, some of our students enroll in college courses with the possibility of obtaining an associate’s degree. Students are given quarterly benchmark assessments to monitor their academic progress. The data is analyzed by the instructional team. As a result, we modified our school schedule to implement our Eagle Power Period where all students (school-wide) are actively engaged in test-taking strategies. During this time, academic standards are reviewed in preparation for state assessments (WIN, ACT, EOC).
Information, media, and technology skills completes the South Carolina Graduate. To support this vision, our students receive MacBooks (through the One-to-One Initiative) that are used during instruction. Our teachers integrate technology into their lessons by using Active Promethean Boards and Apple TV. Students are further exposed to information and technology through integrated business, webpage design, and engineering courses.
We strive to be a parent friendly school by treating all parents with respect and providing an “open door” policy for parents, guardians, and community stakeholders. Scott’s Branch High School is indeed committed to preparing our 21st Century graduates to succeed.
