"During the 2017-2018 school year, our School Improvement Council chose to continue to focus on building the self-worth of our students, faculty, and staff. We did this through an Inspirational Project where in conjunction with our PTO and community partners, we used inspirational cards to write words of encouragement for our students. Volunteers arrived before the students entered the classrooms and placed inspiration cards on students' desk. The Inspirational Project was a rewarding experience for our School Improvement Council as we provided words of encouragement to our school family. The second project the School Improvement Council took part in was continuing our school's initiative to enhance our school's track by adding budding benches to accompany the exercise stations and to provide areas for reading with Reading Buddies assigned to students. We anticipate the installation of the buddy benches in the fall of the new school year. We held our third annual Fun Run in March 2018. In addition, our fourth and fifth graders participated in a production of The Best Christmas Pageant Ever and provided our school and the community with an excellent performance on stage. Through rehearsals and extended school days for several months, cast and crew proved to our school and the community that we can reach success by working as a team with all members contributing to the goal. We are proud of our students and their hard work. We know that the Arts are an integral part of education. During the school year, our teachers participated in a variety of staff development opportunities. With an emphasis on Read to Succeed, teachers added additional strategies to their instruction in order to meet the various needs of our students. We continued our work as a Professional Learning Community using the book The Essential 55 by Ron Clark. We continue to grow as professionals under the three big ideas of a professional learning community: all students can learn, a culture of collaboration, and a focus on results. We know that we are headed in the right direction, and we will continue to build upon the solid foundation that we have established. Our goal is to help children grow into successful learners and to provide them with the support systems that will enable them to achieve their dreams.
