Crowders Creek Elementary – where young minds SOAR - currently serves 766 students in grades PreK – 5th. Our school is committed to creating a safe, friendly, child-centered environment which effectively addresses the social, emotional, and intellectual needs of each child. We work diligently to expose our students to varied learning opportunities that promote college and career readiness, as evidenced by STEM activities, Career Day, guest presenters, content-aligned field trips, lab activities, project-based learning, and technology integration.
All students are encouraged to develop world class skills by SOARing each day. Our SOAR program promotes the following components: Seeking smart solutions, being Onboard with learning, Acting responsibly, and Respecting others. As a part of our commitment to preparing students to meet the characteristics captured in the Profile of the SC graduate, CCE offers multiple opportunities for students to participate in both service and leadership roles. These varied programs include Student Ambassadors, Peer Mediation Groups, Focus Groups, Kind Kids Club, Morning News Show Team, Youth Advisory Committee, and Safety Patrol. Additional school clubs and activities that help to meet the varying interests of our students are Chorus, Recorder Club, Engineering for Kids, Battle of the Books, Starbooks Café, Odyssey of the Mind, Recycling Club, Let Me Run, Girls on the Run, Gardening Club, Accelerated Reader, Book Club, Honors Chorus, Bible Release, CCE Night Out, and DUKE Tip. Our 4thgrade students also participate in “Kicking with Confidence” a four-day swimming instruction and water safety unit at the Lake Wylie Aquatic Center. We were excited to add the Comics Club and Yoga Group this year which were both established by students.
Effective communication is key to strengthening the connection between home, school, and the community. Various modes of communication are used to keep all stakeholders actively engaged in our school and the learning process for our students. These methods include Parent Portal, Canvas, Class Dojo, Seesaw, Blackboard, Peachjar, CSD app, CCE website, CCE and PTO Facebook pages, school marquee, emails, newsletters, and phone calls. CCE works diligently to increase opportunities for collaboration with larger philanthropic organizations. Additionally, our partnerships with local churches, businesses, civic groups, community members and volunteers provide support through both donations and mentorships. Catawba Counselors, the Backpack Program, coat drives, ongoing food collections, sneaker initiatives, and holiday assistance are just a few examples of how the needs of our students and community are being met. Our PTO continues its commitment to providing community-based, family oriented events and supporting initiatives that enhance teaching and learning while strengthening the relationships between families and our school.
Administrators and teachers work collaboratively in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) to analyze data and personalize learning for our students. Our instructional assistants also play an integral role in implementing differentiated lessons for our students. Ongoing professional learning opportunities at the state, district, and school levels help our staff remain abreast of current educational trends, best instructional practices, and strategies for enhancing student engagement. We continue to refine our Response to Intervention (RtI) procedures and protocols to ensure that instruction is customized and tailored to the individual needs of all of our students.
Accountability for teaching and learning is measured through district, state and federal assessments. Students in grades 3-5 participate in the SC READY state assessments and students in grades 4-5 are formally assessed through the SC PASS assessment. Results are published annually by the SC Department of Education. Kindergarten – 5thgrade students also participate in MAP formative assessments three times per year. Data from multiple sources like these, are used to inform instructional decisions. At CCE, we take great pride in fostering an environment that promotes the success of Each Child; Each Day; Excellence!
