Griggs Road Elementary is helping all students develop the World Class Skills and Life and Career Characteristics of the Profile of the Graduate by implementing a rigorous Pre-Kindergarten through fifth grade curriculum and by providing a variety of co-curricular opportunities for our students.
The focus of the faculty, staff, administration, and parent organizations at Griggs Road Elementary School is to provide a quality education for all children. Through dedication and hard work, Griggs Road has received the Palmetto Gold Award from the South Carolina Education Oversight Committee for Academic Achievement for the nineth consecutive year.
The Clover School District is a one-to-one district, and Griggs Road has embraced the use of technology during the 2017-2018 school year. Pre-K and kindergarten classrooms have a set of IPads in each classroom. All students in first through fifth grade have an IPad assigned to them through our district technology department. Students integrate the use of technology to support daily instruction. Presently, 98% of our third through fifth grade students take advantage of a take-home option which extends learning beyond the classroom.
Griggs Road utilizes an after school tutoring program to promote student achievement. Students in kindergarten through fifth grade are provided opportunities to receive academic support in small group settings. Tutoring groups are rotated on a semester basis which allows teachers to target specific skills.
Griggs Road encourages students to be good citizens by emphasizing co-curricular activities that incorporate service learning and character education. Students are able to participate in the following clubs: Chorus, Art Club, Girls on the Run Program, Fit Kids Club, and Engineering Club.
Highlighting student strengths is a focus for our school. Students are recognized for a variety of accomplishments during our weekly Magic Monday assembly. The Student of the Month program continues to be a huge success. Students are selected by teachers based on various character traits. Students are recognized during our school assemblies and their parents are issued a sign to display on their property to showcase their child in the community
Parent involvement is important to the culture of Griggs Road. Our School Improvement Council (SIC) and PTO members contribute their time and talents to many projects/activities at our school. In the 2017-2018 school year, as a result of PTO sponsored fundraiser event, BoosterThon, our students were given a variety of field trip experiences that allowed learning to extend beyond their classroom. Parent volunteers contribute to the overall success of our school by giving their time to help with and participate in a various school/community events such as planning a community 5K race, organizing a family movie night, chaperoning grade level field trips, assisting with the Lip Sync talent show, hosting many staff appreciation promotions, working in book fair events and sharing their time and talents with the school throughout the year.
The goal of Griggs Road is to provide academic excellence and a love of learning. The staff at Griggs Road, with the support of community members/volunteers, work diligently to deliver quality education for all students. This goal of academic excellence is reached through the efforts of faculty, staff, parents, community support, and students in providing a safe, nurturing, and healthy school environment. Griggs Road is a school where our parents, community members, and volunteers are welcomed and appreciated.
Griggs Road Elementary will continue to work to provide opportunities to develop World Class Knowledge, World Class Skills, and Life and Career Characteristics so that all student will be successful in their future endeavors.
