Woodruff Elementary School is helping all students develop the world class skills and life and career characteristics of the Profile of the Graduate by empowering students to become master learners. We provide developmentally appropriate instructional practices by employing a faculty of teaching professionals certified in Elementary Education, Early Childhood Education, and specialized areas of instruction. Our staff members utilize current research tailored to the specific needs of our students where teachers make instructional decisions based on the academic, social, physical, and emotional needs of students. This process for identifying the instructional focus in our school begins with a diagnostic approach using formative and summative assessments. The information garnered is then used to tailor classroom instruction to individual student needs. Our curriculum is closely aligned with the College and Career Readiness Standards, providing an environment of high expectations for students along with rigorous academic expectations that inspires success.
The purpose of Woodruff Elementary School is to create a community of learners where each student is provided with a quality education in a safe, supportive environment that promotes self-discipline, motivation, and excellence in learning to manage life’s challenges successfully. We continue to believe every student at Woodruff Elementary School should be afforded the same opportunities and receive an outstanding education. The voice of each student and parent matters. We believe all parents are respected and valued members of our school community. We continue to provide over fifty parent and student activities, clubs, and events. Some of these opportunities include 4-H clubs, recognition ceremonies, special lunch Wednesdays, Donuts for Dads, Grits for Grands, Terrific Kids, Girls on the Run, and Rock Star Readers. We are convinced that daily engagement in activities that support student interests will result in healthy relationships among our school members, parents, students, and the surrounding community.
The stakeholders at WES play a vital role in determining the needs of our school. Based on an analysis of multiple parent survey results, our School Improvement Council decided to remain focused on school communication with parents. Our school will continue to explore and develop the most effective means to foster on-going dialogue with parents in regard to student opportunities, school events, and assessment measures. We will continue to provide opportunities for parents to express their opinions to determine the best way(s) to improve home and school relations.
In keeping with our school-wide theme, “Dream, Hope, Imagine”, our students are reminded daily of the limitless possibilities for success. Embedded in our school theme is the idea that students will find success in a global world. Empowering our students with an engaging curriculum focused on a real-world application of knowledge will prepare them for future endeavors.
