Sandlapper is helping all students develop the World Class Skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by providing a safe, caring, and academically challenging learning environment. We provide such an environment by the implementation of our school vision, “Leadership: Choose it, Own it, Live it!” We demonstrate this vision by challenging our students with best practices to reach their full potential and providing continuous professional development for our teachers.
Sandlapper Elementary is helping all students develop the world class skills and life and career characteristics of the “Profile of the SC Graduate” through our continued emphasis of a positive, safe school culture and student leadership through the “Leader in Me” Model. Students learn, practice and lead through active engagement of the 7 Habits, becoming critical thinkers, problem solvers, collaborators, capable communicators and ethical citizens. They also have the opportunity to shine in their choice of over 30 clubs to which ALL students in K – 5th belong! We honor our leaders who “do the right thing when no one is looking” with quarterly “Lunch of Leaders” celebrations. When students meet their classroom, grade, and school wide goals, they celebrate with extra recess, special movies, popsicles, dance parties and PJ parties!
We value the whole child, every child’s unique gifts and needs, as well as establishing the foundation for the 21st Century Skills: Critical thinking, Communication, Collaboration and Creativity. Rigor, Relevance, and Relationships (3R’s) is integrated in everything we do at Sandlapper. Rigor is evidenced in our goal-setting at individual and collective levels. Relevance permeates students’ experiences as they see how they contribute to their learning and to the greater good. Each child tracks personal goals as well as measures his/her contributions to the class, grade and school goals. Relationships are demonstrated in mentor/mentee connections that every child has with his/her accountability partner.
Our teachers are always learning new and effective strategies to help our students continue to grow academically. These strategies and resources include Project Based Learning, Response to Intervention, Differentiated Instruction, and one-to-one computing. Rigorous standards combined with creativity, innovation and teamwork equip our students with college and career readiness. We use data to plan and implement curriculum for our students. Data from assessments including NWEA Measure of Academic Progress, SC Ready, SC PASS, and other school and district assessments including Easy CBM are analyzed to guide our instruction.
We believe that it is essential for the school, family, and community to partner together in the education of our youth. Each year, we invite families and the community into our school for many activities including our Family Dance, Veteran’s Day Celebration, Leadership Events, Military support groups and more. We are committed to the continuation of the collaborative culture of Sandlapper and to making a positive impact in the lives of your children. Working together, we will prepare students with the skills to succeed in their future endeavors. Thank you for your support in helping develop the future of our South Carolina graduates and future leaders!
