Jackson School is committed to helping all students develop the world class skills of the Profile of the Graduate by providing a safe and supportive environment where students are challenged to take ownership of their education. We do this through the implementation of our school mission for our students to LEAD, Encourage, Achieve and Dream. Our students are taught the eight habits of highly effective people by Dr. Stephen Covey. This year our school-wide theme was: “Leave a Legacy...Love, Learn Lead.”
We are proud of our history of leadership success. We have been a Franklin Covey “Leader In Me” school for seven years and we hold the title of being a Lighthouse school. We use direct instruction to teach our students the principles of the eight habits. Our students also maintain leadership notebooks where they set and track personal and academic goals, participate in various leadership clubs and have classroom and school-wide leadership roles that are career related. We prepare our students to LEAD at school, at home, and in the community.
We continue to use data-driven instruction to meet the academic needs of our students. This year our Response to Intervention process was streamlined and transformed to identify areas of strength for enrichment and areas of deficit for targeted intervention. Teachers participate in data team meetings where current student data and progress monitoring tools are the focus of the conversation. Teachers work with a reading coach and interventionist to provide challenging academic experiences for all of our students.
This year we celebrate some school and district accomplishments. Mr. Jonathan Hunt was named our district’s outstanding first-year teacher of the year and Matia Goodwin was named our district’s principal of the year. Our students also met their school-wide math fluency goals every quarter. We received an Arts in the Basic Curriculum Grant and are students were given opportunities to work with several artists in residence and experiences with the integration of the arts into our standards based curriculum and instruction.
At Jackson School, our vision states that we are growing a community of leaders by engaging one person at a time. We believe that Together Everyone Achieves More, and we strive to create a TEAM atmosphere with our students, teachers, parents, and community. We do what is best for children and we know that working together yields positive outcomes, academic excellence, and success for everyone. As always, we appreciate your support of Jackson School where we LEAD - Lead, Encourage, Achieve and Dream!
