Loris Elementary School is helping all students develop the world class skills and life and career characteristics of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by providing a safe, caring, and academically challenging learning environment. Through the combined effort, students will be provided with a safe, caring, and academically challenging learning environment. The mission of Loris Elementary is to provide a globally competitive education that empowers students to achieve academic and personal fulfillment and lays the foundation for students to become productive, self-sufficient and responsible citizens in the 21st century. We strive to accomplish this through teamwork and adequate teaching that is aligned with rigorous SC College and Career Ready Standards. Our staff, students, and parents have worked hard, and we will continue to strive to be the best that we can be.
Students in grades K-5 receive specifically planned instruction in ELA and Math. Reading Interventionists are used to provide small group instruction for students who need more intensive reading support. The planning is strategic and differentiated with the intent to increase student learning and make academic gains which are measured by the use of Measure of Academic Progress (MAP) and Dynamic Indicators of Basic and Early Literacy Skills (DIBELS).
Staff participate in weekly professional development sessions to enhance world class skills. These professional development sessions include school-wide instructional initiatives, Everyday Math, small group intensive reading intervention, engagement structures, and SCCCR Standards as well as integrating technology into the curriculum. Grades 3-5 classes are all 1:1 with iPads. We offer numerous digital content programs for students to allow them to work at their instructional level.
Students and staff participate in community projects including Horry County Solid Waste Authority Recycling, Relay for Life, United Way, Salvation Army Canned Food Bank, Box Tops for Education, and Jump Rope for Heart. We also offer several events where parents and students come together in our school. Those events are Breakfast with Dads and Muffins with Mom as well as our monthly family reading nights. Loris Elementary School has partnered with St. Stephens Episcopal Church for the past 10 years in implementing a successful mentoring program.
Loris Elementary is dedicated to creating an energetic learning environment where students are academically challenged and will become lifelong, productive learners.
