Our school is helping all students develop the world class skills and life career characteristics of the Profile of the Graduate by providing highly qualified teachers who have received extensive staff development in the areas of reading, mathematics, science, social studies and technology. The mission of Green Sea Floyds Elementary School is to provide a rigorous, results-driven curriculum that ensures the academic, social, emotional, and physical development of all students, preparing them to reach their full potential as responsible and productive members of society.
The vision of Green Sea Floyds Elementary is to be a premier, world-class school in which every student acquires an excellent education. Our school will be a welcoming center organized around high quality teaching and learning. Our vision is guided by a set of beliefs that serve as the foundation for all of our efforts.
Foremost, we believe that our purpose is to develop the potential of each student and ensure that all students become productive members of their community, able to adapt to a diverse, ever-changing world. We also believe that we have the obligation to challenge every student to meet higher academic standards than his/her current level. In order to accomplish this, we believe that our students deserve exceptional and passionate staff, who share our core values. Our core values are:
• We put service to students above all else.
• We take responsibility for the success of all students.
• We care passionately about our work with children.
• We build strong positive relationships with students, staff, parents, and community.
• We model and promote civility and integrity.
We are supported by our School Improvement Council, PTA, and various community organizations. Our School Improvement Council meets regularly to discuss the academic progress of our school and to discuss parental involvement activities and community support for school events. We have 100% parental participation in parent-teacher conferences. Parent Workshops are held throughout the school year focusing on the following areas: Early Reading Strategies, Gifted and Talented, Math, technology, and various parenting topics such as Utilizing Parent Portal, Assessment, Middle School and Beyond, Bullying, and internet safety. These workshops were held at varied times of the day. We have had great participation in events such as: Goodies for Grandparents, Awards programs, Book Bingo, Trunk or Treat, Book Fair, and Family Math nights.
Our school is helping all students develop the world class skills and life and career characteristics of the Profile of the Graduate by providing opportunities that challenge students in the areas of academic, personal, physical, and social development. Evidence of accomplishing this came when the South Carolina Department of Education awarded Green Sea Floyds elementary the Palmetto Gold Award for general performance. Driven by SC State Standards, our staff provides rigorous curriculum that includes opportunities for acceleration, remediation, and enrichment through small group instruction, intervention, and the gifted/talented program. Students in all grades have access to digital devices throughout the school day. As our teachers and staff grow and work together, they continue to develop their skills by participating in professional development activities and focusing on instructional strategies to improve student achievement in all subjects.
Green Sea Floyds Elementary is very proud of our accomplishments and are very excited about sharing these. Our students are to be commended for doing their personal best each day. Our work with PBIS has created a positive, safe school climate where everyone strives to be respectful, responsible, and build positive relationships. Students are recognized for making good choices and using appropriate life skills. The partnership between home, school, and community has been vital to our success this year. Our community support, PTA fundraisers, Donors Choose (a program that funds teacher requests for instructional materials), business partners, student council projects, and Horry County Solid Waste Authority Recycling Program have really benefited our school. The PTA fundraisers have been very successful. Donors Choose donations have provided many of our individual classroom and instructional needs. Our school family participated in Relay for Life, Jump Rope for Heart and Pink Out Day. These events were a huge success and were achieved by teamwork. We appreciate our students, staff, parents, grandparents, churches, GSFH and community for all their hard work. We believe in the importance of service learning and each grade level at GSFE participates in a service learning project. Green Sea Floyds Elementary was represented by many teams at the Horry County Schools Technology Fair. We also have a First League Lego Robotics teams. We have been blessed to have the support of a caring community as evidenced by the success of our Backpack Buddies, Super Student Celebrations, Angel Tree, and Good News Club. The Green Sea Floyds Elementary school theme, Where It’s All About Kids, exemplifies the focus and commitment of our community to provide a quality education so that all students achieve academic excellence.
