Myrtle Beach Intermediate is helping all students develop world class skills and life and career characteristics of the Profile of the Graduate. We provide a rigorous math and English Language Arts curriculum in all classes that differentiate to meet the needs of all of our students to prepare them for their future. Computer assistance was offered in math and ELA, along with Homework helper time each day. Students are learning 21st century skills with technology being a tool for learning and creative expression. Our school technology fair was a brilliant display of world class skills that blended 21st century skills, creativity, and educational standards.
Along with the many activities that went on here at MBI, we started the New Year with 348 new 4th graders. Our fourth grade students went to the State Museum and the State Zoo, as our Fifth graders spent three days at Barrier Island in Charleston. We had celebrations of the Lifeskills that promoted characteristics of a graduate. We continued to emphasize and model the lifeskills through our curriculum and day in having high expectations for children in being good citizens. Students, parents, and the community raised money for Color Run and Jump Rope for Heart.
Our Title One funds supported interventions, parent workshops, and site visits from consultants for our staff. Planning and instruction were based around the data from MAP (Measuring Academic Progress) student work and responses. Teacher, administration, and student conferences were held throughout the year to determine student achievement goals and assess the progress toward those goals.
PTO sponsored a successful fundraiser and provided special events throughout the year for the students. Community support came in generous gifts from the “Caring for Kids” organization on a weekly basis and the Wellsprings Church. We worked closely with Myrtle Beach High School as we had a production of Aladdin, Jr for the community. The dedication and commitment of the MBI teachers, staff, and community provided for a productive year as we continue to strive to provide students with world class skills and career characteristics.
