Lucy T. Davis Elementary School is helping all students develop world class skills along with the life and career characteristics of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by providing a safe and engaging learning environment where students are encouraged to reach their greatest potential. Our faculty, staff and administration maintained our mission “To Educate, Prepare, Inspire” through critical thinking, collaboration and the integration of technology in all subject areas which afforded students with greater opportunities for engagement and learning.
Fully believing in continued learning for all stakeholders, teachers were given opportunities to participate in several different professional development sessions which include: Read to Succeed initiatives, 1:1 Chromebook usage, Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID), Responding to Text, PBIS, Touch Math, Enrich, SC State Standards, Utilizing Data, Every Day Math, Reading Renaissance, Write from the Beginning, Orton Gillingham, Google Classroom, Utilizing iPads/iPods and others. We use MAP (Measures of Academic Progress), STAR and DRA assessments to guide our instruction, attempting to promote students to their highest level of learning. High expectations are set for our students and our staff.
At Lucy T. Davis Elementary we also have various programs outside the academic world to focus on the development of the whole child. Students at Lucy T. Davis Elementary were rewarded for positive behaviors using Owl Loot. This “loot” was cashed in each nine weeks for an entertaining activity along with shopping in the Owl Loot store. We were also awarded a recycling grant, which provided recycling bins in each classroom. Students in the Recycling Troopers club assisted in gathering items from the recycling areas to a larger bin for pickup. Lucy T. Davis also collaborated with Help 4 Kids to provide food over the weekend for numerous students. Finally, we continued to promote awareness for community and good health through Good News Club, Hoops for Heart, American Red Cross Blood Drive, Salvation Army Food Drive, Pasta for Pennies, Jar Wars for Cystic Fibrosis, LTD Clothing Closet and Socks for Shelters.
We will continue to strengthen community involvement, differentiate instruction through use of technology, utilize AVID strategies, and provide our staff with the training and materials needed to achieve success. Student safety and improving student achievement through high expectations are our top priorities. Our safe, challenging, and enriching learning environment epitomizes our profound passion to educate our Outstanding Wonderful Learners!
