Charleston Progressive Academy (CPA) is helping all students develop the world class skills as outlined in the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate. Our Mission: “Building Tomorrow’s Leaders, is supported by our active engagement in Franklin Covey’s The Leader in Me (TLIM) initiative. TLIM embodies the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. The staff and students at CPA have adopted this lifestyle and use it as our most valuable tool in empowering and educating tomorrow’s leaders. TLIM is presented to our young leaders in a student friendly language. The 7 Habits are aligned with the world class skills required of South Carolina Graduates in all areas. CPA’s collaboration and communication illuminated this year as we prepared for our Lighthouse Review to become a Leader in Me Lighthouse School. We are so proud to be named a Leader in Me Lighthouse School, and even more proud of our students and staff. CPA’s students are engaged in learning experiences that are rich with technology integration as well as some traditional instruction and collaborative learning.
As a leadership Lighthouse School it is critical that students learn teamwork and collaboration, one of the world class skills. In order to prepare for the Lighthouse Review, teams of students had to work together to prepare and execute various tasks. All teams were completely student led. Some of those teams were: Leadership Tour Guides, Classroom and School Greeters, Jr. Lighthouse Teams, and Leadership Notebooks Presenters. Participating in the Lighthouse review gave students the opportunity to show their real world skills. 100% of students in grades K – 5 participated in the Lighthouse Review. Students were excited to showcase their Leadership roles and skills.
The skill of communication is vital as a real world skill. CPA has been a 1:1 technology school for the last four years. Having iPads and chromebooks available has provided a plethora of digital content to our students. Students are given additional practice in reading and math with digital platforms; Dreambox (Math) and Lexia (Reading). In our first year of implementation, 51% of our students met the usage threshold in Lexia. As we enter our second year of usage with both programs we will focus onfidelity to increase our students’ readiness in these areas. Now that we have achieved Lighthouse Status, the first CCSD School to accomplish the honor under TLIM, CPA students will continue to grow in various leadership roles that exemplify collaboration, teamwork, and communication. Our leaders will also continue to develop world class skills to escalate their readiness in all areas. As educators, we know nothing is possible without the support of our parents and the community. We thank you for your continued support as we “Build Tomorrow’s Leaders!”
