Springfield Elementary School is a Talent Development Academy, a place of rigorous and high level learning where academic talent is nurtured and developed and where underrepresented gifted and talented (GT) students perform at higher levels of achievement. This vision supports students developing the world class skills and life and career characteristics of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate. School staff work in collaboration with The College of Charleston, who provides non-digital resources and serves as a training resource related to the Talent Development Curriculum. Both teachers and leadership attend ongoing professional development related to Talent Development Academy implementation and best practices at Springfield Elementary. Teachers in grades K-5 receive ELA and math units including teacher guides and math manipulatives. Purposeful collaboration ensures the needs of all our students are being met. Students spend much of the instructional day in collaborative learning groups solving complex problems and creating projects. Teachers incorporate rich discussions and academic talk into all areas of the curriculum, allowing students to engage in meaningful dialogue across all settings.
Consistent, ongoing communication is essential to ensure student success. Home/school communication occurs daily, through agendas, homework binders, and digital resources. Springfield maintains a school website, Facebook page, and Twitter account where school information can be found along with showcasing our student work and successes. All teachers hold data conferences with families at the end of the first quarter, where results from formal and informal assessments are reviewed in order to support student growth. School communication folders are sent home on Wednesdays which include graded papers, office communications and fliers, monthly newsletters, and class information.
At Springfield, students come first!
