Sanders-Clyde Elementary School is a Title I school serving child development to fifth grade students. Our unique school focuses on arts integration with a partnership with the highly celebrated artist, Mr. Jonathan Green. This approach to teaching and learning involves using various forms of the arts to teach South Carolina Curriculum Standards. The mission of Sanders-Clyde Creative Arts School is to prepare ALL scholars to enter and succeed in college through EFFORT, ACHIEVEMENT and the CONTENT OF THEIR CHARACTER.
Our school boasts on a dedicated and committed faculty and a safe, nurturing child-centered environment in which to educate all children. We have supportive parents, strong mentor and volunteer programs, and outstanding community support.
Creativity and innovation have been key themes at Sanders Clyde for several years. Integrating the arts through state standards is the foundation to providing a vehicle for students’ natural abilities to shine. We are making progress in raising our academic achievement by using instructional techniques that are based on best practices, honoring instructional time, involving both students and parents in the learning process, as well as providing staff development that is meaningful in enhancing the school’s academic growth. We operated as an Expanded Learning site which allowed our students to receive enrichment activities at the end of their school day. Our goal is to continue to improve the number of students performing at proficient levels in all academic subject areas.
Critical thinking and problem solving skills are primary to increasing college and career readiness for scholars at Sanders Clyde. We have been intentional about leading students to become independent thinkers and problem solvers with strategies that include Document- Based Questioning, Summarizing,Concept Maps etc. Our greatest challenge continues to be increasing growth and overall proficiency for students. In order to meet these challenges, our teachers have had consistent training in data usage and analysis to make instructional decisions. We will continue to use school-wide norming data, MAP data, and Quarterly benchmark results to include SC PASS, SC Ready, F&P, and AIMS Web screening data to improve classroom instruction. We have also incorporated team teaching into our program. Grades 1-4 now are led by two certified teachers delivering quality programs and practices.
Sanders-Clyde continues a partnership agreement with the Charleston Promise Neighborhood school and community support. Our continued focus with CPN will be to provide students with enrichment activities after school, expose students to colleges and college and career ready activities, and provide medical, family, and social-emotional support.
