As a school family, Townville Elementary School, a Title 1 School, works to achieve what's best for all students. Our goal is to have all students leave us with the academic and decision-making skills that prepare them to face different situations and make the best decisions as they move through school and life.
To help foster strong leadership skills, Townville utilizes The Leader In Me, as school-wide philosophy which emphasizes a culture of student empowerment and helps each child reach his/her full potential. Applying The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, teachers and students internalize leadership principles that nurture the skills students need for success in the 21st Century. Students will discover and practice the set of leadership and life skills outlined in Stephen Covey's book, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. Along with focusing on high academic standards, we integrate critical skills and characteristics such as: trustworthiness, a strong work ethic, motivation, problem-solving, goal-setting skills, teamwork, achievement, and valuing diversity in a global society. By developing the whole child - socially, emotionally, academically, and ethically, we will foster a school climate that promotes everyday greatness!
Students are involved in problem-solving processes and plan projects that lead to mastery of content in all areas. Students will apply the rigor of science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics as part of their problem-solving skills. We work to educate students to become logical thinkers, effective communicators, and technologically, scientifically, and mathematically literate.
- Our students host a Leadership Day in May to demonstrate their leadership roles and to share the 7 Habits which they use throughout the school year.
- Michelin's Challenge Education initiative from US2 Sandy Springs Plant organizes tutors and mentors who are a regular part of Townville's academic program. Our Michelin "Friends" assist with other community functions such as spring carnival, PTO events, and field day. Michelin is truly a partner in education with Townville. Michelin has helped to create an outdoor learning lab and was awarded an environmental grant to use at Townville in the upcoming year.
- Students in grades 4-6 have chromebooks to use in class and at home to increase access and support digital learning. Students in grades 2 -3 have devices to use in classroom.
- The use of LLI Reading Intervention supplements our core reading program in the Early Childhood grades.
- We implemented OLWEUS, a bully-prevention curriculum. OLWEUS assists students and staff in identifying bullying, how to intervene, and how to report such situations to the appropriate people in order to maintain a safe and secure environment.
- Two community service projects which the student body promoted were: collecting toiletries for a local nursing home and collecting can goods for a community service agency.
- Each fall, our school hosts a 5K and Family Mile to promote fitness and health in our school and larger community.
- During the summer, the library is open during designated days for students and community members to access digital technology, check out books, and participate in activities directed by our media specialist.
The event of September 28, 2016 forever changed our school and community. Our focus was, and continues to be on the well-being, growth, and progress of our precious learners. During the 2017-2018 school year, a hearing was held with regard to the event. It is expected that a trial could be held during the upcoming school year. Continue to remember to hold our school family in your thoughts as we work in the future years, and upcoming related events, to meet emotional, alongside academic, needs of our school family. We remain focused on taking care of and growing our students emotionally and academically.
