Colleton County School District is committed to providing a pathway of experiences as students develop the necessary skills of the South Carolina graduate. Recognized by the AdvancED Accreditation Commission as a system with full accreditation, we base all decisions and goals on the mission to prepare every student to graduate with a 21st century education to be globally competitive for their chosen college and/or career path.
A variety of instructional practices are utilized to meet the needs of all learners as they develop world class knowledge, skills and life and career characteristics. To meet the needs of all students, we are dedicated to a continuous improvement cycle, staying abreast of the proven research-based practices and utilizing student achievement data to inform all decisions. Some of the initiatives for the 2017-2018 school year were as follows: collaborative Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) that meet to focus conversations around the four essential questions ensuring the learning cycle is complete for all students in all content areas; a systematic approach to formative assessments through the use of Mastery Connect and TE21; providing teachers with professional learning opportunities through the use of Edivate and instructional coaches, and the expanded and continued use of Deeper Learning Practices as a member of the New Tech Network. These strategies provide students with lessons that are designed to engage them into the content as it meets the needs of each individual student.
The district received grants to provide each elementary school with an afterschool robotics program. Bells Elementary and Colleton County Middle School qualified for the state competition from the regional competition. All schools continue to participate in the MUSC/Boeing Wellness Grant to increase the awareness in healthy lifestyles for all. Students benefitted from expanding their life skills set through the use of the Positive Behavior Intervention System and the implementation of the Olweus Model.
As we reflect upon the success of our students at the high school and career and technology center, we are proud of the increase in the number of students earning a completer status. We are especially proud of the growth in our graduation rate which is above the state average. These students are entering the secondary school or workforce with the necessary tools required for their chosen college or career path.
As we continue our journey to develop students to meet the characteristics of the Profile of the South Carolina graduate, we are committed to providing high levels of learning for all students as we prepare every child today for tomorrow.
