Midland Park Primary School is helping all students develop the world class skills and life and career characteristics of the Profile of the Graduate by providing a safe, nurturing, and caring learning environment for our students. Our mission at Midland Park Primary is to develop a love of learning in a nurturing and respectful community in preparation for life-long achievement. Our school goals are to increase student achievement and enhance literacy, to provide a school climate and environment that is safe and supports the learning process, and to improve communication throughout the school community.
Our primary focus is to actively engage all students in order to close the achievement gap and build a solid foundation to prepare students for on-time graduation. In order to minimize the impact of COVID-19 we continually monitored student progress and restructured our interventions to meet the needs of all students. Teachers were able to provide individual supports for students due to smaller class size. We have interventionists that work with kindergarten students that need additional academic support. In addition, we focus on increasing parental involvement, increasing school to home interactions, and enhancing classroom instructional strategies through ongoing professional development. All of our classrooms are equipped with integrated Promethean boards and we have one-to-one iPads for kindergarten students.
Teacher teams meet weekly to discuss teaching standards, instructional practices, data gained from sources such as common assessments, FastBridge, Developmental Reading Assessment, myIGDIs, and established SMART goals and instructional calendars. Our Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) team provides guidance and the framework for providing academic and social interventions. Social emotional data is analyzed and used for planning social and emotional development strategies and interventions. Opportunities for parental involvement are established through family nights, PTO events, Parent Literacy Events, and Math Make and Take Workshops. All school communication documents are sent home in English and Spanish to inform all parents of school activities. Through the use of surveys we determine the needs and interests of our parents in order to plan effective parenting events.
Our parents are always made to feel welcome and are often seen volunteering throughout the school. Our positive school climate allows our children to feel safe in a nurturing environment where they can reach their full potential. We continue to make instructional decisions based on data. Our high expectations have resulted in enhanced performances from our teachers and our students. We are excited about our accomplishments and look forward to continued success at Midland Park Primary.
