Memminger Elementary, IB World School is helping all students develop the world class skills and life and career characteristics of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by providing a safe, caring, and academically challenging learning environment.
Our mission, in partnership with our parents and community, is to accelerate achievement through inquiry, social and emotional development and agency. We strive to help students develop attributes of the International Baccalaureate Learner Profile to become internationally minded learners. We believe in developing a school community where teachers, parents, and children can reflect, choose and act in their educational environment and curriculum.
The 2020-2021 school year was both challenging and noteworthy at Memminger Elementary. We had much to celebrate in student academic growth and achievement. Additionally, we celebrated student successes in demonstrating the IB Learner Profile attributes that are the cornerstone of our IB school culture.
We initiated an advanced academic component in grades K – 5 and welcomed five teacher residents to our school in co-teaching partnerships in our new teacher residency initiative. We continued our work in our on-campus gardens through our partnership with the Green Heart organization and our partnership with Reading Partners. And we recently added a portrait gallery of international children, photographed by the renowned Steve McCurry, called “the Faces of Innocence”, donated to us by the Besherat Arts Foundation.
Our faculty participated in professional development focused on student engagement and rigor. We implemented a new comprehensive ELA program, as well as an online math program in our upper grades. Teachers collaborated weekly in deep dives into our standards and closely monitored student progress. Alaina Bapties was selected as our Teacher of the Year for our school. Our Rookie Teacher of the Year was Shawnieka Miller.
The hard work and dedication of our parents and volunteers, as well as our outstanding community support, enhanced the mission of the school. We look forward to continuing to grow in the 2021-22 school year.
